Alternative Press Fall Ball Tour

Just the other night the AP Fall Ball Tour came through Orlando. My buddies in You Me at Six asked me to come and hang out for the show. I told AP I was going to be there and they hooked it up with an “All Areas” photo pass. When shooting at House of Blues, they’re usually pretty strict so I took advantage of the pass and needless to say, photographs were taken. I ended up filling two of my CF cards, which is always good. Check out some of the shots here..

Well, that’s all for now. The show was fun and the people were great. It was awesome getting to hang with Max from YMAS. We kicked it a bunch over Warped Tour so it was a nice reunion. Hopefully I find my way over to the UK next year.. we shall see :)

Joey Lawrence’s new tutorial has now been released! (available as hard copy or direct download) For a lot of photographers, this is a blessing. In the tutorial, Joey provides in-depth lectures about how he does business, all the way to advanced lighting techniques and photoshop fix-ups.

I’m glad I have a copy of this tutorial. I feel like I could open up a lecture and take some notes. The advice is endless! Joey explains how his career started and what he did to keep it going. He also talks about how important your portfolio is. He shares the layout of his portfolio, offering a sense of direction for others to build off of. For most young photographers, buidling a portfolio is hard and by watching this, you can understand how to display your work in the best professional way possible.

Perhaps the most interesting bits of this tutorial are the “Behind the Scenes” videos. Its always exciting to see what goes on behind the picture. If you’re interested in post-production, then do not fear because Joey explains the tools and steps he takes when editing his photographs. Now, I’m not one to edit my photos extensively but I learned a few things I can do differently to help keep the quality optimal.

You’re a strobist? Well good thing Joey has multiple lectures and behind the scenes videos where you can get a feel for how he actually lights his photographs. Off camera lighting is great when trying to get a good exposure or for manipulating the light to make a photograph more interesting. He also explains how different modifiers will effect the displacement of light which is extremely helpful when trying to decide what to purchase.

I share two passions with Joey, photography and traveling. It was very inspiring to hear him talk about his trips around the world and it was even better to here him explain how he executed those trips. I myself have a few potential trips next year and by watching this, Joey helped me think things through a little more than I already had. He’s been all around the globe so I trust him, haha.

“Sessions with Joey L.” is not only educational but extremely inspiring. If you’re looking for a solid tutorial, check this one out.
